The Asociacion de Bancos de México (ABM) and the Mexican Council for Sustainable Finance (CMFS) have launched a new course enabling bankers in Mexico to foster sustainability across the financial sector.
Background
The financial sector plays a crucial role in accelerating the transition towards a more sustainable future. Sustainable finance, which involves integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations, is essential to building a resilient and sustainable economy.
Mexico has been an active participant in this transition. The Mexican Banking Association (ABM) has launched key initiatives such as the "Mexico Sustainability Protocol" (2016) and the Green Bond Principles (2018).
To further support Mexico in this endeavour, the ABM and the Mexican Council for Sustainable Finance (CMFS) have launched a localised E-learning course. This programme represents a major advancement in sustainability capacity building for the Mexican financial sector.
Description
On September 30th, the ‘Sustainable Finance and ESG Criteria’ course was launched by Asociacion de Bancos de Mexico (ABM) and the Mexican Council for Sustainable Finance (CMFS) with the support of the PRB Academy partners UNEP FI, Chartered Banker Institute and GIZ, as well as IFC. The course highlights the benefits of a green transition, identifying risks, and integrating ESG criteria into credit decisions for a more sustainable financial system.
The course is localised to the Mexican context and is being offered in Spanish. Using a practical and case-based approach, the course provides professionals across the banking sector insights into identifying environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks and building a more sustainable financial system. Participants are introduced to responsible banking, green finance, sustainability frameworks, and risk analysis.
