Sustainable finance taxonomies are a building block of credible sustainable financial markets. Together with our commissioning party, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Sustainable Banking and Finance Network (SBFN), we are excited to launch this free, interactive, and introductory e-learning course.
The “Sustainable Finance Taxonomies” course helps regulators and other market players design and use taxonomies to mobilise capital for sustainable and inclusive activities and projects in their countries.
The course provides an overview of sustainable finance taxonomies, their relevance, purpose, and different use cases. It explains the core elements of taxonomies and introduces principles and good practices for their development. The course applies theory in practice through in-depth case studies from China, Colombia, the EU, and South Africa. There is a particular focus on emerging markets.
The course is aimed primarily at policymakers, including key ministerial staff, regulators, central bankers, capital market authorities, and their advisors. The course also provides important information for the real economy, including financial and non-financial companies, that may need to report on the taxonomy alignment of their business activities in future.
This practical and interactive course has four modules:
• Module 1: An overview of sustainable finance taxonomies
• Module 2: Taxonomies in practice: the EU and China
• Module 3: Principles of taxonomy development
• Module 4: Taxonomy development principles in practice: South Africa and Colombia
The entire course takes approximately 3.5–4 hours to complete, but users can go at their own pace. Once they have finished the course, they will earn a Certificate of Completion. The course is available in English and will soon be available in French and Spanish.
