Introduction to Sustainable Finance – E-Learning

Description

This e-learning course provides technical knowledge on the contribution sustainable finance can make to sustainable development and how sustainable finance can be deployed in a real-world policy or business context. It covers the basics of sustainable finance while providing several opportunities to delve deeper. The course covers sustainable finance instruments, methodologies, and frameworks for integrating sustainability into financial decisions, key global sustainable finance initiatives, and sustainable finance regulations.

The course is presented in four modules:

  • Module 1: Sustainable Finance in Context
  • Module 2:Fundamentals of Sustainable Finance
  • Module 3:Sustainable Finance: Regulation and Self-regulation
  • Module 4: Sustainable Finance Products

Project context

This course was originally developed by the Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB) and GIZ, as part of the Strategic Alliance on Green Bond Market Development in G20 Emerging Economies, and the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), a One UN initiative bringing together five UN agencies. In 2021, the course was comprehensively updated with funding support from the BMZ.

Target group

The e-learning course is designed for interested participants from governments, academia, the financial sector, businesses, and civil society.

Status

The e-learning course was originally developed in 2018. A comprehensively updated version was launched in early 2022. As of December 2023, close to 40,000 users have enrolled for the updated course and close to 10,000 certificates of completion have been issued.
