Description
The initiative aims to incorporate the SDGs in the strategies, processes, and portfolio analysis of development finance institutions (DFIs) in Brazil.
Following a tailored SDG integration methodology, the Association of Brazilian Development Banks (ABDE) supports DFIs through a four-steps capacity-building process. This process helps DFIs reflect on and prioritize the SDGs in relation to their mandates, align their portfolios with the SDGs, and consider the needs of the localities in which they operate.
Recognising the diversity of its members, the methodology recommends a gradual approach, allowing DFIs to:
- Identify the most relevant SDGs based on the institution’s development mandate,
- Map the SDG alignment of the credit portfolio,
- Identify the five highest priority SDG needs given the local context,
- Incorporate the SDGs in governance and strategic planning processes, and
- Foster engagement and build internal technical capacities to work on the sustainable finance agenda with a focus on SDG integration.
