Description
The green livestock farming credit product introduced by Banco da Amazônia (BASA) offers long-term credit opportunities for rural livestock farmers in the Amazon region that adopt sustainable practices and technologies for intensive and efficient land use.
Project context
The Green Livestock Farming credit product is one of five innovative green finance approaches that received support from the Technical Assistance Facility of the FiBraS I project under Component 3, which aims to improve the supply of green financial services and instruments in Brazil.
FiBraS, in conjunction with the French Development Agency (AFD), supported BASA with market studies to assess demand and the environmental, economic, and technical viability of the product. The project also supported the development of criteria, indicators, and methodologies for the monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of socio-environmental impacts, with technical assistance from the Institute of Forest and Agricultural Management and Certification (Imaflora), the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), and the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD). Trainings were held to improve the capacities of bank staff, multipliers, and producers.
Target group
Rural livestock farmers with a positive credit history at Banco da Amazônia, with a possible future expansion of the target group.
Status
The credit product Pecuária Verde is currently in a pilot phase.
